History
The first building was a private residence of the librarian, Mrs. W. A. Jones.
In 1930, the library moved and changed its name to the Ben Lomond Library.
In July 1962, the Charter Oak Library moved to 20562 Arrow Highway. After a
tragic fire which destroyed much of the library and its collection, it was
relocated in 1991 to its present location in the unincorporated area near the
cities of Covina and Glendora.
Collection
The library has a collection of approximately 60,815 adult and
children's books, 4,279 audiocassettes, 6,986 videocassettes and
many paperbacks. There are approximately sixty-two magazine and
newspaper subscriptions. The library features special collections
of talking books, videocassettes, CDs and audiocassettes.
Services
The library collection focuses on adult and children's popular reading
materials, video recordings and audio recordings. There is a small collection
of adult and children's Spanish language material. Regular programming includes
preschool storytimes, class visits, summer reading programs, and special
holiday programming. The library also holds adult programs.
Facilities
The building is 2500 square feet and is located in a small shopping mall.
There is a coin-operated photocopier and coin-operated typewriter. The library
has an online public access library catalog and full text magazine index.
There is plenty of parking. The library has no meeting room.
