History
Founded in 1913 as the second County of
Los Angeles Public Library, the San Dimas Library was orginally located
in the back of Fairbank's Drug Store. Subsequently, it moved to a storefront
location on Bonita Avenue. The present building, located in the San Dimas
Civic Center, was dedicated in 1971.
Collection
The collection consists of over 101,550 books, 100 magazine subscriptions,
7,601 audio CDs & cassettes, and 5,021 video recordings. The library also
has the local San Dimas newspaper on microfilm from 1913 through 1982.
Services
Adult and juvenile materials in English and Spanish, Chinese, Japanese,
Korean and Vietnamese; reference audio-visual materials including compact discs, audio
cassettes, talking books, DVD's and video cassettes. The library also has
a large selection of large print books. There are also Preschool Storytimes
on Fridays at 10:30 a.m., special children's programs and the annual
children's Summer Reading Program.
Facilities
The building is approximately 13,590 square feet, including the meeting
room. Special equipment includes microfilm/fiche reader and three public access
Internet workstations are available on a reservation basis.
