History
In order to serve the outlying schools of the Santa Clarita Valley, the Newhall
Mobilibrary, as it was then known, was founded in August 1958. As schools began
to incorporate libraries within their facilities, the bookmobile service shifted
to serve the new housing developments. Currently, the bookmobile serves the
population of Castaic, Acton, Agua Dulce, Val Verde and the Friendly Valley Senior
Community.
Collection
The collection currently consists of 10,940 books; 1,442 audio recordings; 1,964
video recordings; and 9 magazines.
Services
Reference and Children's programs (Summer Reading Program, bookmark contest and
other special programs during National Library Week).
Facilities
A "library on wheels", the Santa Clarita Valley Bookmobile provides service to
rural and remote areas. At 27 ½ feet in length, the bookmobile can accommodate
2,500 titles or more.
