The County of Los Angeles Public Library provides a variety of special services to meet the information needs of specific target audiences. These services draw on all of the resources of the Library and beyond. The service offered is not dependent on a specific materials collection. Staff are highly skilled in providing service to their particular audience.

The bookmobiles travel to communities that do not have immediate access to a nearby library. The bookmobiles contain a wide variety of recreational reading and other materials. | Books-By-Mail |
A catalog of books that can be obtained by mail is available to the residents of rural areas and to the homebound of Los Angeles County. Current fiction and popular non-fiction titles, for adults and children in English and Spanish, can be borrowed through this free service. Materials are also available in large print. CHIPS: Consumer Health Information Program and Services

CHIPS is a consumer health information program located in the Norwalk Library. CHIPS staff provides information and referral, answers reference questions and circulates health materials. The program is planned to help the general public achieve optimum health by providing current, accurate medical information and materials on request. | Internet (Public Access Internet) |
The County of Los Angeles Public Library offers public access Internet workstations at all 84 community libraries. To become an Internet user, customers must be a borrower in good standing. Customers will need their library card (ID) and PIN (Personal Identification Number) to register and to be added to the Internet Management database.
All minors (under 18) must have the parent, guardian or foster parent fill out and sign an Internet Access For Minors application. The parent or guardian must sign this form in the presence of Library staff. Parents or guardians may select General Access, Children's Limited Access, or Blocked (no Internet) access to the Library Internet for their children.

Literacy Centers
|
Volunteers and staff at Literacy Centers offer tutoring and assistance to adults who wish to improve their skills in reading, speaking and writing English. In addition, each center has materials for adult new readers, tutors, and others interested in literacy. Self-help materials are available on audiocassettes, videocassettes, and in easy-to-read books. The staff is trained to assist in the use of these materials. Live Homework Help

Students in grades 4-12 with County of Los Angeles Public Library cards can connect to live tutors through the Internet. Expert tutors from Tutor.com will provide homework assistance in English, Math, Social Studies and Science during designated hours in English or Spanish. Live Homework Help is available in County libraries on any public access Internet computer as well as from home computers. Live Homework Help is funded by a grant from the S. Mark Taper Foundation.
