LA County Library Customer Expectations

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to wear a mask? I'm vaccinated!

So glad that you’re protected! We would like to continue to protect everyone that comes into the library. At this time, the Department of Public Health orders require everyone over 2 years old entering a public space to wear a mask. If you prefer, we still offer sidewalk pick up of library materials, online books, films, and music. We also offer Laptop and Hotspot Kits that can be checked out for 3 weeks.

Do I need an appointment to use the library?

Libraries offering in-person services will not require an appointment. With capacity limits on the number of people allowed inside the library, we ask that customers keep their visits as brief as possible. In the event capacity is reached, queue lines like those outside retail stores and supermarkets will be available.

Can I still pick up my holds without coming in?

Yes, we offer Sidewalk Service for customers that prefer contactless pick up. Please call the library to set up a pick-up time.

Can I use a public computer?

Yes, library computers are available for 1-hour sessions. If you need more time than 1 hour per day, Laptop and Hotspot kits are available for checkout for 3 weeks.

Why isn't my library open for in-person services?

Nearly all of our locations offer in-person services. There are a few closed for building projects and we can help you find the next-closest library that offers in-person services.

Can my children go to Storytime again?

We offer outdoor programs for children at some locations and will communicate with our customers when more program information is available. In the meantime, we offer Virtual Storytime and other virtual programs for people of all ages. Visit our Virtual Programming page for more information.

Do you have Homework Help?

Yes. Homework Help is available for our customers as a self-service. Library staff can provide limited assistance, but must maintain physical distance from library customers. Brainfuse is available and offers live tutor sessions in several languages from 12 – 10 pm daily.

Can I use a study room/rent the meeting room?

At this time, study rooms and meeting rooms are not available in the library.

I need to meet with my study group. May I add chairs to a table?

At this time, we are allowing one person per table to allow for safe physical distancing. Additional chairs are available for members of the same household, upon request.

Can my children do virtual classes at the library?

Due to limited capacity, we are encouraging customers to use our limited services deliberately so that others can come in throughout the day. If capacity is reached, customers must wait outside until more space is available. Laptop and Hotspot kits are available for checkout for 3 weeks.

I need help on the computer. Will I be able to have someone help me?

Yes, we can assist with basic computer questions, but if you need more assistance, we recommend that you bring someone from your household to help you. Laptop and Hotspot kits are available for checkout for 3 weeks.
